On a scrappy note, I have to say that for the first time since I started scrapbooking, I feel like there's suddenly no point to it. My view on scrapping has been to try to capture a memories and thoughts in an attractive and creative way. This then provides me with an arty outlet and a nice hobby. Lovely. But, this week, Shimelle has started her new annual class - Document 2010. This goes along the lines of collecting together 'stuff' throughout the month of your day to day life, events, happenings and taking photos. At the end of the month you then sift through all the memorabilla and pics and scrap what you want to keep.
All well and good, but then I got to thinking: actually, Oliver is not remotely interested in the albums I have produced documenting his every waking moment. I reckon he would be more interested in envelopes full of 'stuff' and pics each month to look through in years to come. Therefore, I could keep 'stuff', take pics, put them into envelopes, bind each year into a folder of 12 envelopes for the next 10 years thereby saving myself a heap of time and money. I could bung in letters, all manner of scribbled notes and thoughts and voila. A full and comprehensive history of his life taking almost no extra time, effort or cash.
Boy I feel pretty flat now I've thought it out like that.

.. if he has grown up with it he isn't going to see the value right now.. won't he love it when he's older and it helps him remember those days which might otherwise have passed unmentioned?
..but I do have similar thoughts when I look at my (very) scrappy room and it's gone untouched / untidied for 2 months now!
And then I got sent a shutterfly family album and it was like digital scrapbooking without the glue.. and so slick & quick..??!!
My girls show a passing interest in my scrapping but I don't think they'll be terribly interested (or as impressed with my artistic endeavors as they should be) until they're much older.
They're happy enough with a regular photo album and to see pages as I do them. My scrap albums are for me and I hope are an investment for the future, even if it's for the pleasure of a great-grandaughter or distant relative.
I'm joining in with Scrapdolly's 52 in 10 which, I think, will be a year long project all about who I am in 2010. I've never scrapped all that much about me so it will be an interesting project - but not for the kids obviously!
Yeah, though it would lessen your wheelie bin load, it would not be as fun, surely?
hi there, popping by to say hello. I am planning to take part in document 2010 too, I don't have children but I think that in 10 years time, I hope that I will have some enjoyment about looking back at my albums. I hope you will too. xx
